President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey initiated urgent phone calls with five key Arab and Muslim leaders on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

The outreach followed a major Israeli airstrike on Iranian military infrastructure that heightened fears of a broader regional war.

Erdogan held separate conversations with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iran, Pakistan, and Egypt in response to the growing tension.

He warned that the military operation by Israel posed a “deliberate threat” to regional stability and international peace.

The Turkish presidency issued a statement stressing that the situation required “immediate diplomatic intervention by responsible states.”

Leaders Briefed on Civilian Casualties and Nuclear Threat

According to Turkey’s Directorate of Communications, Erdogan condemned the Israeli strike that killed senior Iranian commanders.

The attack also caused civilian casualties and was widely criticized by regional actors and humanitarian organizations.

Erdogan claimed the assault had triggered a limited nuclear leak at the targeted Iranian facility in central Isfahan.

Iranian state media denied any dangerous radiation, but Erdogan insisted that “reckless actions” had compromised global safety.

He described the event as “an act of sabotage” against ongoing nuclear reconciliation talks between Tehran and Washington.

Regional Diplomacy Gains Urgency as War Fears Rise

Erdogan told Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that diplomacy must prevail to prevent a full-scale war.

He echoed similar messages to Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

In each call, Erdogan repeated his concern that “the region cannot withstand another crisis of this magnitude.”

The Turkish leader emphasized that escalation would unleash mass displacement and strain the entire Mediterranean corridor.

Pakistan’s premier reportedly agreed to explore the possibility of an emergency summit under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Gaza Crisis Used as Political Cover, Erdogan Warns

During his call with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, Erdogan linked Israel’s actions in Iran with the ongoing war in Gaza.

He warned that Tel Aviv might be “using the Iranian confrontation to deflect attention” from human rights violations in Gaza.

Erdogan stressed that the world must not forget the continuing siege, civilian deaths, and humanitarian catastrophe in Palestinian territories.

He also noted that Israel’s “disregard for international law” was no longer a regional matter but a global liability.

Observers say Erdogan’s remarks reflect growing frustration across Muslim-majority nations over the double standards of Western powers.

Erdogan Advocates Nuclear Talks and Multilateral Oversight

The Turkish president urged the revival of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States as a “core solution path.”

He called for independent monitoring of sensitive sites through the International Atomic Energy Agency to restore international trust.

Erdogan also emphasized the need for regional dialogue mechanisms involving Türkiye, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

He proposed a multilateral diplomatic initiative aimed at cooling tensions and building guarantees for regional stability.

So far, Iran has signaled cautious openness, but Israeli officials continue to assert the legitimacy of their preemptive strikes.

Analysis: A Call for Diplomacy in a Region on the Edge

Erdogan’s intervention reflects Türkiye’s strategic positioning as a bridge between East and West in crisis diplomacy.

His criticism of Israel may strain relations with NATO allies but aligns with domestic and regional sentiment.

Analysts believe his proposal for a regional security framework deserves serious attention amid repeated diplomatic failures.

If left unchecked, the current Israel–Iran confrontation could ignite a larger conflict and collapse nuclear diplomacy efforts entirely.

The global community must now choose: endorse diplomacy or allow another war to engulf an already fragile region.***
