Indonesia’s Presidential Chief of Communications (PCO) Hasan Nasbi has acknowledged the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration.
However, he stressed that the final decision rests solely with the president.
“A reshuffle is always possible, but the timing and affected ministers remain the president’s prerogative,” Hasan stated at a press briefing in Jakarta on Tuesday.
His remarks followed growing speculation about an impending cabinet overhaul.
Cabinet Reshuffle Speculations Rise Amid Performance Evaluations
Public discussions about a reshuffle have surged in recent weeks. Analysts attribute this to Prabowo’s demand for higher ministerial accountability.
Hasan clarified that all current discussions remain speculative. No official announcements have been made by the Presidential Palace.
“Only the president knows the right moment for a reshuffle,” he added.
Independent observers suggest key ministries, including food security and energy, may see changes.

President Prabowo recently issued a stern warning to officials failing to meet expectations. His comments fueled reshuffle conjectures.
“Underperformers should step down before being dismissed,” he declared during a national address on June 2. The statement was widely interpreted as a prelude to cabinet changes.
Hasan, however, downplayed assumptions of an imminent shake-up.
“The president’s remarks were a general reminder, not targeting specific individuals,” he explained.

Data from Indonesia’s National Food Agency (Bapanas) indicates lagging performance in several ministries, adding pressure for a reshuffle.
Balancing Political Demands and Governance in Reshuffle Decisions
While the constitution grants the president full reshuffle authority, political realities complicate decisions. Coalition partners reportedly seek greater representation in the cabinet.
Golkar and PDIP, key allies, have allegedly proposed new ministerial candidates. The palace has yet to respond to these requests.
“Prabowo must weigh political stability against governance needs,” said political analyst Firman Noor from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences.
A recent Indikator Politik poll found 65% of Indonesians support a reshuffle to improve governance.
How a Cabinet Reshuffle Could Impact Indonesia’s Economy
Investors are closely monitoring reshuffle developments for signs of policy continuity. Sudden changes could trigger short-term market volatility.

“Markets dislike uncertainty but reward reform-oriented reshuffles,” noted economist Faisal Basri from the University of Indonesia.
The energy and food security ministries are under particular scrutiny. Bapanas is reportedly preparing performance reports for presidential review.
Analysts suggest a well-executed reshuffle could boost investor confidence in Prabowo’s reform agenda.
Will the Reshuffle Prioritize Performance or Political Expediency?
A reshuffle should prioritize competence over political appeasement, argue governance experts. Past reshuffles have sometimes favored loyalty over merit.
“The president must resist pressure to appoint unqualified coalition nominees,” said public policy expert.
Transparency in the evaluation process could mitigate public skepticism. Independent advisory panels have been proposed to ensure objectivity.
Civil society groups urge Prabowo to align the reshuffle with national development goals rather than short-term political gains.
Citizens’ Role in Shaping a Transparent Reshuffle Process
Indonesians are encouraged to track official updates via Bapanas and the PCO website. Public feedback can help ensure accountability.
“Constructive public input strengthens democratic oversight,” Hasan emphasized.
Social media campaigns have already amplified calls for a merit-based reshuffle.
A well-communicated reshuffle could reinforce public trust in Prabowo’s leadership amid rising economic pressures.***
