Between 2025 and 2026, Kuala Lumpur remains the most-searched domestic destination among Malaysian travellers. For couples and solo travellers, a city break can be as simple as checking into a hotel, spending the afternoon by the pool, dressing up for dinner, and enjoying a slow morning without anyone asking what the next activity is.
Penang and Malacca follow in second and third place. Both suit groups of friends who want to build a weekend around heritage streets, independent cafés, late-night food stops and conversations that are not interrupted by a packed family schedule.
2. Cooler air and longer conversations
Cameron Highlands is the fourth most searched location, offering an easy change of atmosphere for adults who would rather swap the city heat for tea country, cool evenings and a slower few days.
It works just as well for couples as it does for groups of friends sharing a stay, settling in for long meals and enjoying the rare luxury of having nowhere urgent to be.
Taiping offers another slower-paced alternative, with searches increasing by 35% compared with 2025. Its greenery, heritage and gentler town rhythm make it suited to adults who want a road trip without turning the holiday into a race between attractions.
3. A coastal break without complicated planning
Port Dickson rises from ninth to fifth place in 2026, with searches increasing by 38% compared with 2025. It offers the kind of break that can come together without months of planning: a drive to the coast, time by the sea and a night or two away from the usual routine.
2026 searches for Lumut increased by 40% compared with 2025. For couples or groups of friends, it offers another coastal base for a few slower days built around sea air, local food and time together without a long list of things to accomplish.
4. Island time with nowhere else to be
For adults who want to switch off properly, Redang Island and Tioman Island put a little more distance between the holiday and everyday life.
Searches for Redang Island increased by 27% compared with 2025, while Tioman Island recorded a 20% rise. Both lend themselves to a simple rhythm: wake up, swim, eat, nap and repeat.
For groups of friends, an island stay can also be a rare chance to disconnect together, away from work calendars, household routines and the pressure to make every hour productive.
